ALCATRAZ – Das Sommerwunder 2021 (13.-15.08.2021)

Als auch der zweite Sommer in Folge in Aussicht stellte, uns keine schmerzlich vermissten Festivals zu erlauben, hatten wir die Hoffnung schon fast begraben. Doch wie heißt es so schön? „Unverhofft kommt oft“. Und so gestattet die belgische Regierung ab dem 13.08.2021 wieder größere Festivals und legt damit eine Punktlandung für den Startschuss zum ALCATRAZ HARD ROCK & METAL FESTIVAL in der Zeit vom 13.-15.08.2021 hin.

Das Festival fand erstmals 2008, damals noch in Deinze, als eintägiges Hallenkonzert statt und konnte bereits zu Beginn mit Größen wie DORO oder EXODUS aufwarten. Schnell hatte man sich einen Namen gemacht und verlagerte das Event 2013 nach Kortrijk, um die Dauer auf zunächst zwei Tage zu erweitern und beim Bandrepertoire nochmal eine ganze Schippe draufzupacken. So gaben sich bis heute beispielsweise Größen wie STATUS QUO, BEHEMOTH, KORN oder TWISTED SISTER in regelmäßigem Abstand die Klinke in die Hand, was auch dazu führte, dass man 2017 die Festivaldauer erneut anhob und nun drei Tage zur Verfügung hatte, um die Massen an Bands angemessen unterzubringen. Im gleichen Maße wie die Acts, sind selbstverständlich auch die Zuschauerzahlen gewachsen und so sind aus den gerade einmal 2500 Leuten, denen die Brielpoort-Halle in Deinze Platz bot, bis 2018 bereits rund 24.000 Besucher geworden, die sich Jahr für Jahr im belgischen Kortrijk treffen und die Einwohnerzahl des beschaulichen Ortes für drei Tage einmal eben um ein Drittel erhöht.

Nachdem 2020 aufgrund der Pandemie leider notgedrungen das Festival verschoben werden musste, war es bis vor Kurzem noch unklar, ob man dieses Jahr bessere Karten hat. Doch die Festivalgötter waren uns allen wohlgesonnen und so dürfen in Belgien ab 13.08. wieder Festivals mit bis zu 75.000 Personen stattfinden, wodurch das, glücklicherweise für den 13.-15.08.2021 angesetzte Alcatraz stattfinden darf. So wurden dann innerhalb kürzester Zeit Infos zum Hygienekonzept vor Ort und die ersten Bands veröffentlicht, was dem einen oder anderen sicher den Sommer gewaltig versüßen dürfte. Einige Bandbestätigungen stehen laut Veranstalterseite zwar noch aus, aber das mindert die Ansehnlichkeit des bisher bestätigten Line-Ups in keinster Weise.

Just when the second summer in a row started to look like we won´t get any of our, deeply missed, festivals anymore we almost abandoned all hope, but as they say: „expect the unexpected“. And so the Belgian government announced the will allow festivals again starting at 13.08.2021 and therefore perfectly in time for the ALCATRAZ HARD ROCK & METAL FESTIVAL from 13.-15.08.2021.

The festival was founded in 2008, at that time still located in Deinze, as a one-day indoor concert and already offered big acts like DORO or EXODUS right from the start. Alcatraz quickly made a name for itself, and was moved to Kortrijk in 2013 to extend the duration to, initially, two days and to even enlarge the variety of bands they featured on the billing. Until this day the already welcomed some of the biggest acts in the business at their festival and well known bands, such as STATUS QUO, BEHEMOTH, KORN or TWISTED SISTER, have joined the Line-Up one after another. This also led to the fact that the festival duration was increased once again in 2017 and now had three days to accommodate the masses of bands adequately. Of course the numbers of visitors increased the same way the number of acts did and so the mere 2,500 people, which the Brielpoort Hall in Deinze held back in the day, have grown to around 24,000 people by 2018, who meet year after year in the Belgian town of Kortrijk and increase the city´s „population“ by a third.

After 2020 unfortunately had to be postponed due to the evil C-word, it was unclear until now whether there would be better circumstances this year. But the festival-gods are kind and so festivals up to 75,000 people are allowed to take place again in Belgium starting from 13.08, which means that the Alcatraz, luckily scheduled for August 13.-15., will take place this year. Thus, they released information about the hygiene concept on site and published the first bands within only a few days after the confirmation and will certainly sweeten the summer for a lot of people therebye.

Some bandwise confirmations are still pending according to the organizers, but that does not diminish the appearance of the confirmed line-up in any way. The confirmed bands so far are:
